Founder and Managing Director

Established Warnes Associates, Structures, in Bangkok; growing the company rapidly to 70 staff in year 2006. Established satellite offices on the Islands of Phuket and Koh Samui in the south of Thailand in 2002 and 2004 respectively, and created Warnes Associates Pte Ltd, Singapore, in late 2005, to facilitate more regionally based work.

Projects have ranged from small consultancy reporting, residential house designs, through to major value engineering studies, design of high-rise offices and condominiums, together with hotels, resorts, industrial and infrastructure works.

Chief Resident Engineer - Venice Hill Condominium & Golf Resort Development

Employed on contract basis as Chief Resident Engineer, based on-site full time, representing the Civil & Structural design consultants, Brisbane based 'Robert Bird & Associates'; and acting as owners representative on behalf of the Client/Developer, 'Li-Foong' and with its in-house construction arm, 'Kin Hup Seng Construction', for a project consisting of eleven multistorey condominium towers varying in height from 15 to 32 storeys all of insitu concrete construction, with additional ancillary structures and infrastructure work.

Responsible for the improvement of overall on-site quality control and ensuring construction conformance to the engineering design documents, with a team of three Residential Engineers.

Duties and responsibilities included the development and implementation of comprehensive QA systems for systematic construction compliance monitoring and defect rectification; resolution of site construction issues and documentation inconsistencies, provision of on-site design detailing, professional advice, guidance and instruction contractor, to streamline project implementation. A ‘Resident Engineers Manual’ was developed providing inspection checklists, procedures and standard instructions.

    Senior Structural Engineer

    Responsible for client liaison, conceptualisation, analysis and design supervision, preparation and checking of project documentation, and subsequent site monitoring of projects ranging from simple single storey structures through to large, complex office and apartment buildings.

    Expertise developed in the areas of seismic design and analysis of major high rise structures, computerisation of design and analysis tasks, development and implementation of standard and typical designs and CAD details, and the training of locally qualified Papua New Guinea engineers in the seismic design structures.

    Reporting on the Newcastle, Australia Earthquake of December 1989:

    Preparation of over a hundred reports an earthquake damage, for building owners, insurance companies and assessors, and builders. Provision of recommendations for means of repair/reinstatement, including preparation of repair designs and details for structures from single storey residential buildings to multistorey office buildings. Building analysis for upgrading of seismic resistance; peer review of earthquake remedial works prepared by other engineering and building consultants.


    General:

    Design experience using New Zealand, Australian, Papua New Guinea, and British standards; some experience with American SEAOC and ACI codes; and is conversant with concepts of capacity design and the analysis, design and detailing of structural systems for seismic territories.

    Computer literate including design, analysis, word processing, spreadsheet software. A special interest has been in developing spreadsheets for various analytical and design functions.
